In today’s society, keeping the financial figures hidden often means disaster lurks -- and that was the case for Dayton Public Schools. The district was failing in many areas and looming close to state takeover. However, once local businessman Adil Baguirov joined the Dayton Board of Education in 2013, elected by his peers, he was determined to repair many of the financial wrongs occurring in the system. Adil Baguirov not only took immediate steps as a board member to increase cash reserves by Dayton Public Schools and establish an independent internal auditor office, but he increased overall financial transparency and accountability, also reducing district expenditures so school classrooms had more direct funds. These measures by Baguirov and his fellow Board of Education members drastically improved the school system in the immediate as well as for years, if not decades, to come.
